Type locality: "Colombia, Departamento del Cauca, Municipio El Tambo, Corregimiento 20 de Julio, Hacienda 'El Tambito' de la Fundación Proselva, ca. 2° 28′ latitud N, 76° 50′ W de Greenwich, 1380-1580 m." Distribution
Known only from the region of the type locality on the western slope of the Cordillera Occidental of Cauca, Colombia, 1380-1580 m elevation.

Previously confused with Atelopus longirostris and Atelopus lynchi, according to the original publication.
