Univ. Michigan, 166: 23, is in error. Type locality: "from a stream on Mt. Sapo, [Provincia Darién,] eastern Panama".

Comment

Savage, 1972, Herpetologica, 28: 91, recognized this taxon as a species and denied any close relation to Atelopus spurrelli; Cochran and Goin, 1970, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 288: 131, considered it a synonym of Atelopus spurrelli. In the Atelopus ignescens group of Lynch, 1993, Alytes, 11: 77-87.
