Rana tiannanensis Yang and Li, 1980, Zool. Res., Kunming, 1: 261. Holotype: KIZ 77I0185, by original designation. Type locality: "Hekou, Dawei Hill, Yunnan; altitude 1200 m", China.

Rana (Odorrana) megatympanum Bain, Lathrop, Murphy, Orlov, and Ho, 2003, Am. Mus. Novit., 3417: 50. Holotype: ROM 39684, by original designation. Type locality: "Khe Moi River, approximately 24 km west of Con Cuong village (by road), Con Cuong District, Nghe An Province, Vietnam (18° 56′ 30″ N, 104° 48′ 35″ E)". Synonymy by Ohler, 2007, Alytes, 25: 59.

Rana tabaca Bain and Nguyen, 2004, Am. Mus. Novit., 3453: 17. Holotype: AMNH 163923, by original designation. Type locality: "from a stream near the Hmong Village of Khau Ria, in Du Gia commune, Yen Minh District, below Mount Muong Cha, Ha Giang Province, Vietnam (22° 54′ 27″ N, 105° 13′ 59″ E, ca. 800 m elevation)". Synonymy with Rana megatympanum by Stuart and Bain, 2005, Herpetologica, 61: 478-492; with Rana tiannanensis by Ohler, 2007, Alytes, 25: 59.

Type locality: "on a tree root projecting from a dirt bank 2 m above a tributary of the Nam Ou River in evergreen forest in Phou Dendin National Biodiversity Conservation Area, Phongsaly District, Phongsaly Province, Laos, 22° 5′ 38″ N, 102° 12′ 50″ E, 600 m elevation". Synonymy by Ohler, 2007, Alytes, 25: 59.

Guangxi and southern Yunnan (Mangla, Pingbian, and Hekou counties) and Hainan Island, China; Phou Dendin National Biodviersty Conservation area, Phongsaly Province, Laos; northern, north-central, and northeastern Vietnam in and around montane rivers as well as in the adjacent forest, 120-1000 m elevation

Yang, 1991, Amph. Fauna of Yunnan: 153-155, and Fei, 1999, Atlas Amph. China: 200-201, provided accounts. Ye and Fei, 2001, Acta Zool. Sinica, 47: 528-534, placed this in their Odorrana schmackeri group. In the Odorrana (Odorrana) schmackeri group of Fei, Ye, Huang, Jiang, and Xie, 2005, Illust. Key Chinese Amph.: 126.
