Type locality: "on a leaf of an herbaceous plant along a small rocky stream in hilly wet evergreen forest in Xe Sap National Biodiversity Conservation Area, Kaleum District, Xe Kong Province, Laos, near 16° 04′ 10″ N 106° 58′ 45″ E between 1280-1500 m elevation".

Most similar to Rana nasica, Rana archotaphus, Rana daorum, Rana trankieni, and Rana iriodes, according to the original publication. Bain, Nguyen, and Doan, 2007, Herpetol. Rev., 38: 110, provided specific localities for Vietnam and briefly discussed the range.
