Comment

Subgenus Eburana of Dubois, 1992, Bull. Mens. Soc. Linn. Lyon, 61: 328. Matsui, 1994, Zool. J. Linn. Soc., 111: 385-415, disputed this subgeneric assignment, noting that it may belong in Odorrana. See Stejneger, 1907, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 58: 131-134; Boulenger, 1920, Rec. Indian Mus., 20: 211; and Okada, 1931, Tailless Batr. Japan. Empire: 166-168, for accounts. See Kuramoto, 1979, Japan. J. Herpetol., 8: 14, for geographic records. Maeda and Matsui, 1990, Frogs Toads Japan, Ed. 2: 116-119, provided an account. Goris and Maeda, 2004, Guide Amph. Rept. Japan: 68-70, provided an account, map, and photograph. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Rana ishikawae) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 504. Kurabayashi, Yoshikawa, Sato, Hayashi, Oumi, Fujii, and Sumida, 2010, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 56: 543-553. The population on Amami Island formerly identified as Odorrana ishikawae has been identified by Kuramoto, Satou, Oumi, Kurabayashi, and Sumida, 2011, Zootaxa, 2767: 25-40, as Odorrana splendida.
