Meristogenys stenocephalus Shimada, Matsui, Yambun, and Sudin, 2011, Zool. J. Linn. Soc., 161: 173. Holotype: BORNEENSIS 12810, by original designation. Type locality: "Ulu Senagang, Crocker Range National Park, Sabah, Malaysia (5° 20′ 40″ N, 116° 01′ 45″ E, 550 m a.s.l.)".

In the Meristogenys jerboa species group and confused with Meristogenys whiteheadi prior to its naming according to the original publication.
