Bufo muelleri Boulenger, 1887, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 5, 20: 52. Holotype: BMNH 1947.2.20.57 (formerly 87.4.12.18), according to Inger in Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 26. Type locality: "Mindanao, Philippine Islands".

Mountains of central and western Mindanao and Dinagat Island, Philippines (see comment).

Sanguila, Siler, Diesmos, Nuņeza, and Brown, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 333-350, reported on the phylogeography of this species in Mindanao, noting at least four unnamed lineages, which to be named will require a restriction in type locality inasmuch as the species does not seem to be morphologically distinguishable.
