Mountains of East Kalimantan (Indonesia) and Sabah and northeastern Sarawak (Malaysia), Borneo, 1000-2000 m elevation.

Malkmus, Manthey, Vogel, Hoffmann, and Kosuch, 2002, Amph. Rept. Mount Kinabalu: 149-150, provided an account. See comment under Meristogenys. Shimada, Matsui, Yambun, Lakim, and Mohamed, 2008, Zootaxa, 1843: 24-34, provided molecular evidence for the existence of at least two distinct species in Sabah, Malaysia, masquerading under this name; one of which was subsequently named as Meristogenys dyscritus. Shimada, Matsui, Yambun, and Sudin, 2011, Zool. J. Linn. Soc., 161: 157-183, provided molecular evidence for at least three cryptic species in addition to nominal Meristogenys amoropalamus.
