Distribution

Confined primarily to the Balsas Depression of southern Mexico in the states of Morelos, Guerrero, Michoacan, Morelos, Puebla, and Mexico, but extends eastward into Oaxaca and northwestern into Jalisco and Colima.

Comment

In the Rana tarahumarae group of Hillis XXX, Rana pustulosa group of Dubois, 1987 "1986", Alytes, 5: 42, and equivalent subgenus Zweifelia of Dubois, 1992, Bull. Mens. Soc. Linn. Lyon, 61: 331. This species had been mistakenly referred to as Rana pustulosa in most literature. See comment under Rana pustulosa. See account by Webb, 2001, in Johnson et al. (eds.), Mesoam.
