Synonymy with Rana nigrovittata by Smith, 1922, J. Nat. Hist. Soc. Siam, 4: 212. Removed from synonymy; without discussion, by Dubois, 1992, Bull. Mens. Soc. Linn. Lyon, 61: 326. Ohler, Swan, and Daltry, 2002, Raffles Bull. Zool., 50: 475, disputed the synonymy but did not provide evidence.

Prior to the revision of Frost, Grant, Faivovich, Bain, Haas, Haddad, de Sá, Channing, Wilkinson, Donnellan, Raxworthy, Campbell, Blotto, Moler, Drewes, Nussbaum, Lynch, Green, and Wheeler, 2006, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 297, placed in the Section Hylarana, subsection Hydrophylax, subgenus Sylvirana of Dubois, 1992, Bull. Mens. Soc. Linn. Lyon, 61: 326. See comment under Rana nigrovittata. Reported for southwestern Cambodia by Ohler, Swan, and Daltry, 2002, Raffles Bull. Zool., 50: 465-481. Chan-ard, 2003, Photograph. Guide Amph. Thailand: 132-133, provided a very brief account, map for Thailand, and photograph. Stuart and Emmett, 2006, Fieldiana, Zool., N.S.,, 109: 10, provided records for the Cadamom Mountains, southwestern Cambodia, and noted differences in observations from those made previously of this species by Ohler et al. (2002). Fei, Ye, Jiang, and Xie, 2008, Acta Zootaxon. Sinica, 33: 199-206, provided a key to the close relatives of this species.
