Hylarana maosonensis Bourret, 1937, Annexe Bull. Gen. Instr. Publique, Hanoi, 1937: 36. Syntypes: MNHNP 38.46-53, 48.140-143 (formerly in LZUH), according to Guibé, 1950 "1948", Cat. Types Amph. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat.: 42, CAS-SU 6392, FMNH (2 specimens, according to Marx, 1976, Fieldiana, Zool., 69: 54). Type locality: "Mao-Son", Tonkin, Vietnam.

Distribution

Mountains of northeastern Vietnam (Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Yen Bai, Vinh Phu, Bac Thai, Bac Khan, Ha Bac, Quang Ninh, Hai Hung, Ha Tay, Son La, Ninh Binh, and Hoa Binh provinces) and central Vietnam (Quang Binh Province), Annamite range in Laos (Bolikhamxay and Khammouan Provinces), and in southern Guangxi, China.

Fei, Hu, Ye, and Huang, 2009, Fauna Sinica, Amph. 3: 1140-1143, provided an account, figures, and map for China and placed it in their Hylarana (Sylvirana) latouchii group. Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2010, Colored Atlas of Chinese Amph.: 316, provided a brief account including photographs.
