Rana guentheri Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 48. Syntypes: BMNH (three specimens) including animal figured in pl. 4, fig. 2 of the original publication. Type locality: "Amoy" (2 specimens) and "China" (1 specimen). Restricted to "Amoy" by Gee and Boring, 1929, Peking Nat. Hist. Bull., 4: 29.

Rana elegans Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 59. Syntypes: BMNH (3 specimens, including one figured in pl. 5, fig. 1 of the original), by original designation. Type locality: "W. Africa" (2 specimens) and unknown (1 specimen). Synonymy by Boulenger, 1907, Proc. Zool. Soc. London, 1907: 481. Synonymy questioned by Bourret, 1942, Batr. Indochine: 309.

Distribution

Central Vietnam throughout southern China (north to Yangtze River), including Hainan and Taiwan; introduced onto Guam.

Christy, Clark, Gee, Vice, Vice, Warner, Tyrrell, Rodda, and Savidge, 2007, Pacific Sci., 61: 469-483, reported reproducing populations on Guam.
