Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 297, placed in the Section Hylarana, subsection Hydrophylax, subgenus Papurana of Dubois, 1992, Bull. Mens. Soc. Linn. Lyon, 61: 326. Considered a junior synonym of Rana papua by Van Kampen, 1923, Amph. Indo-Austral. Arch.: 201, Van Kampen and Brongersma, 1931, Treubia, 13: 15-18, and as a subspecies of Rana papua (in the Rana papua group) by Mertens, 1927, Senckenb.
