Comment

Considered a synonym of Rana rugosa by Liu and Hu, 1961, Tailless Amph. China: 141-142, but subsequently considered a distinct species by Sichuan Biological Research Institute, 1977, Syst. Key Chinese Amph.: 41, 82; Zhao and Huang, 1982, Acta Herpetol. Sinica, Chengdu, N.S.,, 1 (1): 10, 22; and Zhao and Adler, 1993, Herpetol. China: 150. In the Rana (Rana) rugosa group according to Dubois, 1987 "1986", Alytes, 5: 42. Not mentioned by Dubois, 1992, Bull. Mens. Soc. Linn. Lyon, 61: 305-352, presumably implying synonymy with Rana rugosa. Fei, 1999, Atlas Amph. China: 186-187, provided a brief account, map, and figure. Huang, 1990, Fauna Zhejiang, Amph. Rept.: 74-75, provided an account for Zhejiang populations. See statement of geographic range, habitat, and conservation status (as Rana tientaiensis) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 633. Fei, Hu, Ye, and Huang, 2009, Fauna Sinica, Amph. 3: 1095-1100, provided an account (as Rugosa tientaiensis), figures, and map for China. Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2010, Colored Atlas of Chinese Amph.: 296, provided a brief account (as Rugosa tientaiensis) including photographs of specimens and habitat.
