Removed from the synonymy of Rana holsti by Inger, 1947, Fieldiana, Zool., 32: 327, where it had been placed by Boulenger, 1920, Rec. Indian Mus., 20: 130. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Rana subaspera) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 512. Iwai and Shoda-Kagaya, 2012, Conserv. Genetics, 13: 717-725, reported on inter-populational genetic variation, much of which they suggested was due to population fragmentation caused by predation an introduced mongoose.
