Comment

In the Rana (Nidirana) adenopleura group of Dubois, 1992, Bull. Mens. Soc. Linn. Lyon, 61: 324. Species also described as "new" by Schmidt, 1927, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 54: 559. Removed from the synonymy of Rana adenopleura, for mainlaind populations, by Dubois, 1992, Bull. Mens. Soc. Linn. Lyon, 61: 324, where it had been placed by Pope, 1931, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 61: 534-538, and Liu and Hu, 1961, Tailless Amph. China: 193. Locality records in Liu, Hu, Fei, and Huang, 1973, Acta Zool. Sinica, 19: 395. Resurrection of Rana caldwelli not noted by Zhao and Adler, 1993, Herpetol. China: 138. Fei, 1999, Atlas Amph. China: 178, continued the inclusion of this species in Rana adenopleura. Orlov, Murphy, Ananjeva, Ryabov, and Ho, 2002, Russ. J. Herpetol., 9: 88, provided a Vietnam record of Rana adenopleura which is likely either of this species or Rana daunchina. Fei, Hu, Ye, and Huang, 2009, Fauna Sinica, Amph. 3: 1171, retained this name in the synonymy of Hylarana adenopleura without discussion. Yang, 2008, in Yang and Rao (ed.), Amph. Rept. Yunnan: 22-24, provided a brief account (as Rana adenopleura) for Yunnan, China; as noted above these records presumably apply to either Babina daunchina or Babina caldwelli. See comment under Hylarana adenopleura for records and literature that presumably applies to this species. Shi, 2011, Amph. Rept. Fauna Hainan: 97-98, provided an account for Hainan as Rana adenopleura.
