Rana archotaphus Inger and Chan-ard, 1997, Nat. Hist. Bull. Siam Soc., 45: 66. Holotype: FMNH 214074, by original designation. Type locality: "Dawn Tak Them, Doi Inthanon National Park, Chiang Mai Province, Thailand at 1100 m".

Distribution
Chiang Mai Province, northwestern Thailand; possibly into adjacent eastern Myanmar.
Comment
Most similar to Rana livida, according to the original publication. Stuart, 1999, in Duckworth et al. (eds.), Wildlife in Lao PDR: 48, reported the species for Laos, but Bain, Stuart, and Orlov, 2006, Copeia, 2006: 52, subsequently named this population as Amolops compotrix. Chan-ard, 2003, Photograph. Guide Amph. Thailand: 136-137, provided a very brief account, map for Thailand, and photograph. In the Amolops monticola group of Stuart, Bain, Phimmachak, and Spence, 2010, Herpetologica, 66: 52-66.
