Phrynobatrachus Wittei Angel, 1924, Bull. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat. Paris, 30: 130. Holotype: MNHNP 1924.15, according to Guibé, 1950 "1948", Cat. Types Amph. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat.: 40. Type locality: "Molo, station de l'Ouganda railway, située près du sommet du Maü escarpment (versant oreintal), altitude 2,080 mètres", Kenya.

Rana aberdariensis Angel, 1925, Voy. Alluaud et Jeannel Afr. Orient., 1: 42. Syntypes: MNHNP (17 specimens), including 1924. 3-9, according to Guibé, 1950 "1948", Cat. Types Amph. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat.: 34. Type locality: "mont Kinangop (chaîne de l'Aberdare) (altitude: 3.100 mètres)", Kenya. Removed from synonymy of Rana nutti by Loveridge, 1929, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 151: 97, where it had been placed by Barbour and Loveridge, 1928, Mem. Mus. Comp. Zool., 50: 194. Synonymy by Loveridge, 1936, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 79: 372.

Rana (Rana) aberdariensis — De Witte, 1930, Rev. Zool. Bot. Afr., 19: 258, 261. Based on specimens of Rana fuscigula nutti according to De Witte, 1941, Explor. Parc Natl. Albert, Miss. G.F. de Witte (1933-1935), 33: 41.

Distribution

Montane areas of Kenya and adjacent northern Tanzania to eastern Dem. Rep. Congo.

Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 297, placed in the Section Strongylopus, subgenus Afrana of Rana of Dubois, 1992, Bull. Mens. Soc. Linn. Lyon, 61: 334. The species is not yet well defined according to J.-L. Perret in Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 520. Pickersgill, 2007, Frog Search: 73-74, provided an account as Rana wittei.
