Rana Delalandii Duméril and Bibron, 1841, Erp. Gen., 8: 388. Holotype: MNHNP, by original designation; presumed lost as not mentioned in MNHNP type list. Type locality: "environs du cap de bonne-Espérance", Rep. South Africa. Secondary homonym of Pyxicephalus delalandii Tschudi, 1838 (= Tomopterna delalandii) in Rana. Synonymy by Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 50. See discussion of nomenclature by Poynton and Broadley, 1985, Ann. Natal Mus., 27: 132.

Rana angolensis Bocage, 1866, J. Sci. Math. Phys. Nat., Lisboa, 1: 73. Syntypes: MBL (2 specimens) by original indication; MBL T. 8-94 designated lectotype by implication by Perret, 1976, Arq. Mus. Bocage, Ser. 2, 6: 18, having listed this syntype as "holotype"; destroyed in 1978 fire. Type locality: "Duque de Bragança", Angola; other specimens and localities listed by Perret, 1976, Arq. Mus. Bocage, Ser. 2, 6: 18, in error.

Distribution

Mainly upland areas of Ethiopia but extending to Eritrea; eastern Dem. Rep. Congo and adjacent southwestern Uganda and Rwanda and Burundi; eastern Uganda into western Kenya south through eastern and southern Tanzania, thence west through southern Dem. Rep. Congro to most of Angola south and east through Zamba, Malawi, western Mozambique, and Zimbabwe, and south to southern Rep. South Africa (eastern coastal Western Cape Province) and west along the Orange River to the coast in Namibia and Rep. South Africa; Lesotho; Swaziland.
