Forests of Sierra Leone through southern Guinea and Liberia to southern Ivory Coast and southwestern Ghana.

Ptychadena abyssinica (Peters, 1881), was considered a synonym by Poynton, 1970, Ann. Natal Mus., 20: 365-375, following Schmidt and Inger, 1959, Explor. Parc Natl. Upemba, Miss. G.F. de Witte, 56: 105-109, and Peters, 1881, Sitzungsber. Ges. Naturforsch. Freunde Berlin, 1881: 162. Ptychadena abyssinica was transferred to the synonymy of Ptychadena anchietae by Perret, 1976, Arq. Mus. Bocage, Ser. 2, 6: 20, and Perret, 1979, Bull. Soc. Neuchatel. Sci. Nat., 102: 18. The removal of Ptychadena superciliaris from the synonymy of Ptchadena anchietae was accepted by Poynton and Broadley, 1985, Ann. Natal Mus., 27: 115-181.
