Bufo tuberosus Günther, 1858, Arch. Naturgesch., 24: 322. Holotype: BMNH 1947.2.21.14 (formerly 51.10.25.7), according to ccording to A.G.C. Grandison in Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 63. Type locality: "Fernando Po" (= Bioko, Equatorial Guinea).

Bufo polycerus Werner, 1897, Sitzungsber. Akad. Wiss. München, 27: 211. Holotype: ZSM 45/0, lost, according to Glaw and Franzen, 2006, Spixiana, München, 29: 162. Type locality: "Kamerun". Synonymy by Parker, 1936, Proc. Zool. Soc. London, 1936: 155 (who provided a chronology of the treatment of this name); Loveridge, 1936, Field Mus. Nat. Hist. Publ., Zool. Ser., 22: 84.

Bufo polycercus — Noble, 1924, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 49: 178. Incorrect subsequent spelling. Based on specimens of Bufo camerunensis according to De Witte, 1941, Explor. Parc Natl. Albert, Miss. G.F. de Witte (1933-1935), 33: 39, and Tandy and Keith, 1972, in Blair (ed.), Evol. Genus Bufo: 159.

Distribution

High tropical forest of the Gabon-Cameroon-Rep. Congo-Dem. Rep. Congo region and Bioko, Equatorial Guinea.

Suisse Zool., 107: 389-418, for account and map. Frétey and Blanc, 2001, Bull. Soc. Zool. France, 126: 380, reported this species from Gabon. Lasso, Rial, Castroviejo, and De la Riva, 2002, Graellsia, 58: 21-34, provided notes on ecological distribution in Equatorial Guinea.
