Phrynobatrachus phyllophilus Rödel and Ernst, 2002, J. Herpetol., 36: 563. Holotype: SMNS 9721.1, by original designation. Type locality: "Taď National Park, Ivory Coast, SRET station, swampy area in primary rain forest, 5° 50′ N, 7° 20′ W".

Moderate elevation rainforest from central Sierra Leone through Liberia, southern Guinea, to southwestern Ivory Coast, to ca. 1000 m elevation.
Confused with Phrynobatrachus guineensis in most literature prior to its description and most similar to Phrynobatrachus guineensis, according to the original publication.
