Phrynobatrachus krefftii Boulenger, 1909, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 8, 4: 496. Syntypes: BMNH 1947.2.30.30-31 (formerly 1909.10.19.14-15), according to A.G.C. Grandison in Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 447. Type locality: "Amani", Usambara Mountains, Tanzania.

East and West Usambara and Magrotto mountains, northeastern Tanzania, 770-1500 m elevation.
