Phrynobatrachus guineensis Guibé and Lamotte, 1962 "1961", Bull. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat. Paris, Ser. 2, 33: 571. Holotype: MNHNP 8955, apparently lost according to A. Ohler in Rödel and Ernst, 2002, J. Herpetol., 36: 563. Type locality: "Forêt dense, Mont Tonkoui (Côte d'Ivoire)".

Distribution
Upper Guinea forest zone in West Africa, from Sierra Leone, southern Guinea, Liberia, and western Ivory Coast, up to ca. 1000 m elevation.
