Phrynobatrachus giorgii De Witte, 1921, Rev. Zool. Afr., 9: 8. Syntypes: MRAC (4 specimens), by original designation. Type locality: "Yambata, (Bas-Congo)".
Yambata River Frog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 103).
Known only from the type locality (Yambata) in western Dem. Rep. Congo; records from Cameroon are controversial, possibly referrable to Phrynobatrachus accraensis.
Pauwels and Rödel, 2007, Herpetozoa, 19: 135-148, did not record this species as occurring in Gabon. Frétey, 2008, Alytes, 25: 99-172, summarized the literature.
