Comment

See Laurent, 1972, Explor. Parc Natl. Virunga, Ser. 2, 22: 108, for discussion on distinctness of species. Drewes and Vindum, 1994, J. Afr. Zool., 108: 63, disputed the distinctness of this species from Phrynobatrachus petropedetoides. Poynton, 1964, Ann. Natal Mus., 17: 144, rejected the association of this species with Natalobatrachus. Channing and Howell, 2006, Amph. E. Afr.: 277-278, provided an account. In species group A of Zimkus, Rödel, and Hillers, 2010, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 55: 883-900.
