Bull., London, 94: 6-16, provided a record for this or a very similar species from Gambia. Pauwels and Rödel, 2007, Herpetozoa, 19: 135-148, did not note this species as occurring in Gabon. Frétey, 2008, Alytes, 25: 99-172, summarized the literature. Hillers, Boateng, Segniagbeto, Agyei, and Rödel, 2009, Zoosyst. Evol., Berlin, 85: 127-141, suggested that the name of this taxon covers a species complex. Jacobsen, 2009, Afr. Herp News, 47: 2-20, reported this species from east-north-central Central African Republic. In species group B of Zimkus, Rödel, and Hillers, 2010, Mol. Phylogenet.
