In the Odontophrynus americanus group according to the original publication. Borteiro, Kolenc, Pereyra, Rosset, and Baldo, 2010, Zootaxa, 2611: 1-15, reported this species as diploid and also on its natural history. Kunz and Ghizoni, 2011, Check List, 7: 131-132, provided a locality for Santa Catarina and discussed the range.
