Nyctibatrachus sancti-palustris Rao, 1920, J. Bombay Nat. Hist. Soc., 27: 125. Syntypes: ZSIC 19182-84 and BMNH 1947.2.4.44 (formerly 1919.9.15.1) according to Chanda, Das, and Dubois, 2001 "2000", Hamadryad, 25: 107; BMNH 1947.2.4.44 designated lectotype by Biju, Van Bocxlaer, Mahony, Dinesh, Radhakrishnan, Zachariah, Giri, and Bossuyt, 2011, Zootaxa, 3029: 65. Type locality: "The sacred swamps of the Cauvery [river], Brahmagiri Hills, 4000 feet, Coorg", Karnataka, India.

Distribution

Known with certainty from Kudremukh Nationial Park, Jog (Shimoga), and Kemphole Ghates, all in Karnataka, in the Western Ghats of southern India, 1200 m elevation.

Dinesh, Radhakrishnan, Gururaja, and Bhatta, 2009, Rec. Zool. Surv. India, Occas. Pap., 302: 66, regarded the species to be restricted to the type locality. Biju, Van Bocxlaer, Mahony, Dinesh, Radhakrishnan, Zachariah, Giri, and Bossuyt, 2011, Zootaxa, 3029: 65-68, provided an account and revised the range. In the "northern clade", Nyctibatrachus sanctipalustris group, of Van Bocxlaer, Biju, Willaert, Giri, Shouche, and Bossuyt, 2012, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 62: 839-847.
