Comment

See accounts in Kirtisinghe, 1957, Amph. Ceylon: 88-90. See account by Dutta and Manamendra-Arachchi, 1996, Amph. Fauna Sri Lanka: 31. Chanda, 2002, Handb. Indian Amph.: 41-42, provided a brief account for the Indian population and Dutta, 1997, Amph. India Sri Lanka: 60-61, provided literature access. Ray, 1999, Mem. Zool. Surv. India, 18: 78-82, provided an account for India. See also brief account by. Anders, 2002, in Schleich and Kästle (eds.), Amph. Rept. Nepal: 188-193, provided an extensive account for Nepalese population. See account by Shrestha, 2001, Herpetol. Nepal: 73-74. Sarkar, Biswas, and Ray, 1992, State Fauna Ser., 3: 72-73, provided a brief account for West Bengal, India. Matsui, Ito, Tomohiko, Ota, Saidapur, Khonsue, Tanaka-Ueno, and Wu, 2005, Zool. Sci., Tokyo, 22: 489-495, on the basis of mtDNA sequence analysis suggested that Microhyla ornata is the sister taxon of Microhyla rubra, and not close to other species formerly considered to be closely related or synonymous (ie., Microhyla okivanensis and Microhyla fissipes) with Microhyla ornata. See comment under Microhyla fissipes. Khan, 2006, Amph. Rept. Pakistan: 54-55, provided a brief account for Pakistan. Devi and Shamungou, 2006, J. Exp. Zool. India, 9: 317-324, provided a record for Manipur, northeastern India. Fei, Hu, Ye, and Huang, 2009, Fauna Sinica, Amph. 2: 904-910, provided an account, spot map for China, and assigned this species to their Microhyla ornata group. Ahmed, Das, and Dutta, 2009, Amph. Rept. NE India: 33, provided a brief account for northeastern India. Mehta, 2005, in Alfred (ed.), Fauna W. Himalaya, Part 2: 270, reported the species in Himanchal Pradesh, India, without noting specific localities. Mathew and Sen, 2010, Pict. Guide Amph. NE India: 67-66, provided a brief characterization and photographs. Sharma and Sharma, 2009, Cobra, Chennai, 3: 11-15, provided a record for central Rajasthan, India. Mahony, Hasan, Kabir, Ahmed, and Hossain, 2009, Hamadryad, 34: 80-94, discussed the vouchered range in Bangladesh. Guide: 79, provided a brief account and color photograph. Shi, 2011, Amph. Rept. Fauna Hainan: 54-55, provided an account for a related species in Hainan as Microhyla ornata. See Shah and Tiwari, 2004, Herpetofauna Nepal: 36, for brief account for Nepal. Hasan, Islam, Khan, Alam, Kurabayashi, Igawa, Kuramoto, and Sumida, 2012, Zool. Sci., Tokyo, 29: 162-172, suggested on the basis of molecular evidence that populations from near Chittagong, Bangladesh, are referrable to Microhyla fissipes and that samples from Mymensingh and Sylhet, Bangladesh, represents an unnamed species.
