Calophrynus heterochirus Boulenger, 1900, Proc. Zool. Soc. London, 1900: 186. Holotype: SMK, according to the original publication; the reports of syntypes as BMNH 1909.8.18.6-7 by Parker, 1934, Monogr. Frogs Fam. Microhylidae: 100, is apparently in error (now renumbered BMNH 1947.2.11.38-41 according to Inger, 1966, Fieldiana, Zool., 52: 129). Type locality: "Borneo (no precise locality)".

Removed from the synonymy of Kalophrynus bunguranus by Inger, 1966, Fieldiana, Zool., 52: 128-129, where it had been placed by Parker, 1934, Monogr. Frogs Fam. Microhylidae: 100. See account by Inger, 1966, Fieldiana, Zool., 52: 130-131. See identification table by Manthey and Grossmann, 1997, Amph. Rept. Südostasiens: 46, to compare this species with other microhylids in the Sunda Shelf region. Das, Jankowski, Makmor, and Haas, 2007, Mitt. Hamburg. Zool. Mus. Inst., 104: 155, provided a brief description.
