Peloso and Sturaro, 2008, Zootaxa, 1947: 40, noted that call differences exist among populations suggesting that more than one species may be covered by this name. Morales and McDiarmid, 2009, Biotempo, Lima, 9: 74, also noted call differences among populations that suggest species distinctions.
