De la Riva, Köhler, Lötters, and Reichle, 2000, Rev. Esp. Herpetol., 14: 58, and Köhler, 2000, Bonn. Zool. Monogr., 48: 69, consider this species possibly to occur in Bolivia. Lescure and Marty, 2000, Collect. Patrimoines Nat., Paris, 45: 268-269, provided a photo and brief account for French Guiana, and noted that this species may be conspecific with Chiasmocleis ventrimaculata. Zimmerman and Rodrigues, 1990, in Gentry (ed.), Four Neotropical Rainforests: 426-454, provided the first central Brazilan Amazonia record for this species, near Manaus. Peloso and Sturaro, 2008, Zootaxa, 1947: 50, reported considerable morphological variation among populations suggestive of cryptic species.
