Most closely related to Dendrophryniscus minutus according to the original publication. Ávila, Carvalho, Gordo, Kawashita-Ribeiro, and Morais, 2012, Zootaxa, 3484: : 65-74, commented on the likelihood of unnamed species within this taxon.
