Pseudengystoma bouwensi De Witte, 1930 "1929", Ann. Soc. R. Zool. Belg., 60: 132. Holotype: IRSNB 9223 according to Parker, 1934, Monogr. Frogs Fam. Microhylidae: 66; subsequently reported as IRSNB 1.019 by Lang, 1990, Doc. Trav., Inst. R. Sci. Nat. Belg., 59: 10. Type locality: "Chaîne d l'Arfak, presqu'île du Vogelkop [Arfak Mountains, Vogelkop Peninsula] ..., dans une forêt située a environ 1,000 m. d'altitud", Papua (New Guinea), Indonesia.

English Names

Ocellated Snouted Frog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 93).

Distribution

Known from widely separate localities on the Vogelkop Peninsula and in the Star Mountains of eastern Papua (New Guinea), Indonesia.

Günther, 2003, Faun. Abh. Staatl. Mus. Tierkd., Dresden, 24: 213, provided a record for the Wondiwoi Mts. of western Papua, Indonesia. Menzies, 2006, Frogs New Guinea & Solomon Is.: 268, provided a brief account.
