Oxydactyla brevicrus Van Kampen, 1913, Nova Guinea, 9: 465. Syntypes: ZMA 5714 (Hellwig Mts.), and ZMA 5715-16 (Wichmann Mts.) according to Van Tuijl, 1995, Bull. Zool. Mus. Univ. Amsterdam, 14: 128 ZMA 5714 designated lectotype by Daan and Hillenius, 1966, Beaufortia, 13: 122. Type locality: "Hellwig-Gebireg, +/- 2500 m" = Hellwig Mountains, +/- 2500 m, and "Wichmann-Gebirge, +/- 3000 m" = Wichmann Mountains, +/- 3000 m, Papua (New Guinea), Indonesia; restricted to Hellwig Mountains by lectotype designation.

High elevations (2200-3000 m) in the central mountain ranges of Papua (Indonesia).

Comment

Zweifel, 2000, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 253: 80, noted that previous records for this species for Papua New Guinea are based on specimens of Oxydactyla coggeri, Oxydactyla alpestris, and Oxydactyla stenodactyla.
