Sphenophryne monticola Boulenger, 1897, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 6, 19: 508. Syntypes: BMNH 97.6.21.92-98 according to Parker, 1934, Monogr. Frogs Fam. Microhylidae: 162 (renumbered as BMNH 1947.2.12.26-32), and MCZ 2897 (according to Barbour and Loveridge, 1929, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 69: 345), according to R.G. Zweifel in Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 371. Type locality: "Lombok, ... collected at 4000 feet altitude", Indonesia.
