Cophixalus australis Hoskin, 2012, Zootaxa, 3271: 4. Holotype: QMJ43655, by original designation. Type locality: "Mt Spec, Paluma Ra. (18° 57′ S, 146° 11′ E), north-east Queensland", Australia.

English Names

Southern Ornate Nursery-frog (original publication).

Distribution

Found in the central and southern Wet Tropics area of Queensland, Australia: Malbon Thompson Ra, Mount Bellenden Ker, summit of Mount Bartle Frere and eastern and southern slopes, southern Atherton Tablelands, lowlands of the Innisfail/Mission Beach/Tully Gorge area, Kirrama Ra and Paluma Ra (south to Mount Halifax). The northern extent of the distribution on the Atherton Tablelands is approximately a line between Herberton and Topaz, at least as far north as Mount Hypipamee, Millaa Millaa Falls, Topaz and Lamins Hill.

Comment

Confused with Cophixalus ornatus prior to a study of its molecular and morphological geographic variation, and forming the sister taxon of Cophixalus hinchinbrookensis, according to the original publication.
