Asterophrys Tschudi, 1838, Classif. Batr.: 45, 82. Type species: Ceratophrys turpicola Schlegel, 1837, by monotypy.
New Guinea Bush Frogs (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 87).
New Guinea.
Köhler and Günther, 2008, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 47: 353-365, on the basis of molecular evidence suggested that Asterophrys is phylogenetically imbedded within a nonmonophyletic Callulops. Pyron and Wiens, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 543-583, in their study of Genbank sequences, corroborated this result.
