Known definitely only from the type locality (Digoel River, southwestern New Guinea (Papua, Indonesia).
See account by Zweifel, 1962, Am. Mus. Novit., 2087: 21-24. Burton and Zweifel, 1995, Am. Mus. Novit., 3129: 2, noted that most records of this nominal species probably refer to undescribed species. See account by Menzies, 1999, Aust. J. Zool., 47: 327-360, who named several of these. Menzies, 2006, Frogs New Guinea & Solomon Is.: 178, provided a brief account and suggested that specimens identified as this species from other than the type locality are misidentified, something that affects how earlier account should be read.
