Type locality: "Cordillera de Carphish [sic] (09° 43′ 19″ S, 76° 05′ 76″ W 2969 m above sea level), Provincia Huánuco, Departamento de Huánuco, Peru".

Distribution
Vicinity of the type locality in the Cordillera de Carpish (Provincia Huánuco, Departamento Huánuco) in the central-eastern Andes of Perum and ca. 364 km north of this locality at Laguna de los Cóndores, Juanjui, Huallaga, San Martín, Peru.
Comment
Venegas, 2005, Herpetol. Rev., 36: 76, provided the record from San Martín, Peru. Lehr, Fritzsch, and Müller, 2005, Zool. Scripta, 34: 599, noted that "Phrynopus" carpish is not a hyloid, but instead a microhylid of an unnamed genus (subsequently named Melanophryne).
