Ixalus silvaticus Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 469. Syntypes: BMNH 82.2.10.52-59 (according to Dubois, 1987 "1986", Alytes, 5: 53) and NHMW 22913 (according to Häupl and Tiedemann, 1978, Kat. Wiss. Samml. Naturhist. Mus. Wien, 2: 23, and Häupl, Tiedemann, and Grillitsch, 1994, Kat. Wiss. Samml. Naturhist. Mus. Wien, 9: 27). Type locality: "Malabar", South India. Biju, 2001, Occas. Publ. Indian Soc. Conserv. Biol., 1: 8, noted the imprecision of this type locality.
