Comment

Ohler, Wollenberg, Grosjean, Hendrix, Vences, Ziegler, and Dubois, 2011, Zootaxa, 3147: 28-31, provided a figure, description of the lectotype and an account and either allocated specimens from other than the Karen Hills in eastern Myanmar to other species or did not comment on their status. Stuart, 2005, Herpetol. Rev., 36: 474, noted that the record for Leptolalax pelodytoides for Laos published by Stuart, 1999, in Duckworth et al. (eds.), Wildlife in Lao PDR, was based on Leptolalax bourreti and Leptolalax oshanensis (now reidentified, respectively to Leptolalax eos and Leptolalax minimus by Ohler, Wollenberg, Grosjean, Hendrix, Vences, Ziegler, and Dubois, 2011, Zootaxa, 3147: 39). Delorme, Dubois, Grosjean, and Ohler, 2006, Alytes, 24: 14, noted that Leptolalax lateralis may be conspecific with Leptolalax pelodytoides. There is an extensive literature associated with the name Leptolalax pelodytoides (or Megophrys pelodytoides), for southern China, Vietnam, and Malaysia, but that is not even minimally provisional. Most of these accounts presumably are based on other species or mixed species samples: Account provided for French Indochina by Bourret, 1942, Batr. Indochine: 208-211, as Megophrys pelodytoides. See Taylor, 1962, Univ. Kansas Sci. Bull., 43: 317-319 (Thailand); Berry, 1975, Amph. Fauna Peninsular Malaysia: 37, and Inger, Zhao, Shaffer, and Wu, 1990, Fieldiana, Zool., N.S.,, 58: 5 (India). Karsen, Lau, and Bogadek, 1986, Hong Kong Amph. Rept.: 17, provided a brief account. Yang, 1991, Amph. Fauna of Yunnan: 73-75 (probably based on Leptolalax eos); Fei, 1999, Atlas Amph. China: 102-103, provided a brief account, figure, and map (probably mostly based on Leptolalax eos). See comment by Ohler, Marquis, Swan, and Grosjean, 2000, Herpetozoa, 13: 74. See brief account and photo by Manthey and Grossmann, 1997, Amph. Rept. Südostasiens: 77-78 (probably based on Leptolalax minimus). Huang, 1990, Fauna Zhejiang, Amph. Rept.: 39-40, provided an account (as Carpophrys pelodytoides [specimens now referred to Leptolalax liui]) for Zhejiang. Zhang and Wen, 2000, Amph. Guangxi: 42, provided an account for Guangxi (probably Leptolalax sp.). See also brief account by Zhao and Yang, 1997, Amph. Rept. Hengduan Mountains Region: 49-51. Nutphund, 2001, Amph. Thailand: 78, provided a brief characterization and illustration. Chan-ard, 2003, Photograph. Guide Amph. Thailand: 80-81, provided a very brief account, map for Thailand, and photograph. Nguyen, Ho, and Nguyen, 2005, Checklist Amph. Rept. Vietnam: 112-13, provided specific localities for Vietnam. Yang, 2008, in Yang and Rao (ed.), Amph. Rept. Yunnan: 39, provided a brief account for Yunnan, China. Fei, Hu, Ye, and Huang, 2009, Fauna Sinica, Amph. 2: 315-320, provided an account and spot map. Chan, Daicus, and Norhayati, 2010, Russ. J. Herpetol., 17: 202-206, doubted the West Malaysia record. Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2010, Colored Atlas of Chinese Amph.: 174, provided a brief account (as Paramegophrys oshanensis) including photographs of specimens and habitat.
