Brachytarsophrys platyparietus Rao and Yang, 1997, Asiat. Herpetol. Res., 7: 106. Holotype: KIZ 90275, by original designation. Type locality: "Duo-Di-He, San-Tai, Da-Yao, Yunnan, China, altitude 2100 meters. " Synonymy by Fei, Hu, Ye, and Huang, 2009, Fauna Sinica, Amph. 2: 331.

Brachytarsophrys carinense — Delorme, Dubois, Grosjean, and Ohler, 2006, Alytes, 24: 17. Treatment of the species name, correctly, as a noun in apposition.

Southern Myanmar and adjacent northern Thailand; Yunnan (Yangbi, Lijiang, Bianchuan, Dayao, Kunming, Yuxi) Sichuan (Miyi, Huili, Duko, Muli, Jiulong), Guizhou (Anlong, Leishan), Guangxi (Longshen, Jinxiu), Hunan (Yichang), and Jiangxi (Jingganshan), montane China.
