Sandveld of the western Cape coastal foreland, Rep. South Africa, in two allopatric populations separated by the Somerset-West to Hermanus region.
Comment
The synonymy of Breviceps fasciatus FitzSimons needs further investigation according to J. C. Poynton in Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 356. See accounts by Channing, 2001, Amph. Cent. S. Afr.: 224-225, and Harrison, 2004, in Minter et al. (eds.), Atlas Frogs S. Afr. Lesotho and Swaziland: 188-189. Du Preez and Carruthers, 2009, Compl. Guide Frogs S. Afr.: 126-127, noted striking differences in call between the two nominal subspecies, suggesting species status.
