Nearly the entire length of the island in eastern Madagascar, 0-1800 m elevation.

(Formerly in the synonymy of Mantidactylus albofrenatus according to Mocquard, 1902, Bull. Soc. Philomath., Paris, Ser. 9, 4: 18; and Ahl, 1931, Das Tierreich, 55: 34.) Vences and Glaw, 2004, J. Nat.
