Distribution

Nearly the entire length of the island in eastern Madagascar, 0-1800 m elevation.

Removed from the synonymy of Mantidactylus opiparis by Vences and Glaw, 2004, J. Nat. Hist., 38: 77-118, where it had been placed by Blommers-Schlösser, 1979, Beaufortia, 29: 21. (Formerly in the synonymy of Mantidactylus albofrenatus according to Mocquard, 1902, Bull. Soc. Philomath., Paris, Ser. 9, 4: 18; and Ahl, 1931, Das Tierreich, 55: 34.) Vences and Glaw, 2004, J. Nat. Hist., 38: 92-94, and Glaw and Vences, 2007, Field Guide Amph. Rept. Madagascar, Ed. 3: 244-245, provided accounts.
