Mantidactylus grandidieri Mocquard, 1895, Bull. Soc. Philomath., Paris, Ser. 8, 7: 105. Syntypes: MNHNP 1883.580 and 1892.256, according to Guibé, 1950 "1948", Cat. Types Amph. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat.: 49; syntypes are MNHNP 1883.580 and 1895.255 according to Blommers-Schlösser, 1979, Beaufortia, 29: 7, and Blommers-Schlösser and Blanc, 1991, Faune de Madagascar, 75: 258. Type locality: "Madagascar . . . . côte Est".

English Names

Grandidier's Madagascar Frog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 101).

Distribution

Eastern Madagascar except for the northeast.

Comment

Placed in the synonymy of Mantidactylus guttulatus by Guibé, 1978, Bonn. Zool. Monogr., 11: 18. This was subsequently rejected by Blommers-Schlösser, 1979, Beaufortia, 29: 7. Glaw and Vences, 2007, Field Guide Amph. Rept. Madagascar, Ed. 3: 230-231, provided an account and noted a similar unnamed species from northeastern Madagascar.
