Blommers-Schlösser and Blanc, 1991, Faune de Madagascar, 75: 252, noted that syntypes BMNH 1947.2.26.31-32 are referrable to Mantidactylus curtus. Type locality: "Ambohimitombi Forest, Madagascar".
