Torino, 12: 62, who designated MRSN A72 as neotype; neotype discussed by Vences and Glaw, 2004, J. Nat. Hist., 38: 86-87. Type locality: "dai dintorni di Andrangoloaka e dalla vicina valle dell'Umbi", Madagascar; given as Andrangoloaka, central Madagascar by Andreone and Gavetti, 1994, Boll. Mus. Reg. Sci. Nat. Torino, 12: 62. Neotype from "'An Ala'', next to Périnet-Analamazaotra Special Reserve (Andasibe)", Madagascar.

Andreone and Gavetti, 1994, Boll. Mus. Reg. Sci. Nat. Torino, 12: 55-71, redefined the species. Vences and Glaw, 2004, J. Nat. Hist., 38: 86-88, provided an account. Glaw and Vences, 2007, Field Guide Amph. Rept. Madagascar, Ed. 3: 242-243, provided an account.
