Boophis vittatus Glaw, Vences, Andreone, and Vallan, 2001, Zool. J. Linn. Soc., 133: 522. Holotype: ZSM 586-1999, by original designation. Type locality: "Reserve Naturelle Integrale Marojezy, Camp 3 (14° 26′ S/c. 49° 46′ E, about 700 m above sea level), northeastern Madagascar".

In the Boophis majori group according to the original publication. Glaw and Vences, 2007, Field Guide Amph. Rept. Madagascar, Ed. 3: 158-159, provided an account. Randrianiaina, Strauss, Glos, and Vences, 2012, ZooKeys, 178: 59-124, reported on larval morphology.
